The financial accounts of businesses are handled by accountants who are members of professional bodies and are governed by a code of ethics put in place to regulate professional conduct. This study aimed to establish the relationship between factors influencing ethical values and the accountants’ adherence to the code of ethics. The study employed a quantitative approach with the use of structured questionnaires on a population sample comprising of finance and accounting staff from the Zambian public sector. To determine the respondents, simple random sampling was used to identify the population of interest. The outcome from the study showed remuneration of accountants, internal controls within organisations and independence of accountants to be among the factors that influence adherence to ethical values. It was found that there is a positive relationship between remuneration of accountants, internal controls, independence of accountants and the accountants’ adherence to ethical values. It is therefore expected that the higher the remuneration of the accountant, the stronger the internal controls, the higher the independence of the accountant, the easier it is for the accountant to adhere to ethical values. This study contributes towards enhancing measures put in place to address the shortcomings attributed to compliance with the code of ethics for public sector accountants. It will also be beneficial to accountants as it will echo the need for accountants to uphold ethical values.

Nalukui Simushi, Bupe Getrude Mutono Mwanza Copyright (c) 2022 Nalukui Simushi, Bupe Getrude Mutono Mwanza https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://www.ijemr.net/ojs/index.php/ijemr/article/view/807 Fri, 19 Aug 2022 00:00:00 +0000 The Influence of Leadership Styles on Micro and Small Enterprises’ Performance: The Case of Worabie Town, Siltie Zone https://www.ijemr.net/ojs/index.php/ijemr/article/view/810
The main objective of the study was to examine the influence of leadership styles on the performance of MSEs in Worabie town. A large volume of sand is needed annually for construction work globally. Mining or extraction of sand from the river bed, ocean beds, beaches, and inland dunes is accompanied by several problems such as; lowering of the water table, sinking of bridge piers and erosion of river bed and instability of river bed on the environment, etc. To decrease these environmental impacts and the cost of conventional fine aggregates, alternative materials like mining waste have been studied by several researchers to replace partially fine aggregates in concrete production. Iron ore tailings (IOT) are one of the mining wastes obtained from the beneficiation process of iron ore concentrates. This paper presents an overview of the work carried out on the use of IOT as a partial replacement of fine aggregate in concrete and its effects on the workability, mechanical, and durability properties of concrete.
Abdulaziz Alhassan, Kudirat O. In this study, wastewater from Dangote Fertilizer Limited (DFL) was treated using adsorption method of treatment with consideration of the factors (pH, temperature and contact time) that impedes the efficiency of the method. Plantain husk, which is an agricultural waste, was used as adsorbent in the adsorption process. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to determine the experimental number of runs after which it gives the optimum conditions of those parameters considered. The plantain husk was characterized using Gas chromatograph with Flame Ionization detector (GC-FID). The results obtained in the study revealed that utilization of the plantain husk as adsorbent in adsorption process for the removal of COD and Ammoniacal nitrogen from industrial wastewater will yield a high percentage removal (values). Ammoniacal nitrogen removal with plantain husk adsorbent was about 93% maximum and as pH increased to 7.5 (alkaline), a slight decrease in the Ammoniacal nitrogen removal percentage to about 92% could be attained. Furthermore, percentage removal of COD from the wastewater of about 83% maximum could be obtained. Effect of temperature on COD removal is a direct correlation as increase in temperature could lead to the decrease in COD removal. It can be concluded that the interaction between contact time and pH as compared to other interactions has an overall positive effect in the adsorption process of Ammoniacal nitrogen removal from wastewater. Being an agricultural waste and environmentally friendly materials, adsorbent from plantain husk should be considered for treatment of industrial waste water for removal of COD and ammoniacal nitrogen.
AKINYEMI Olusegun P., NKEMDILIM Favour A.
